Elsie Durland
Elsie Durland, Organization
Development Director, has 15 years of experience as a
generalist in human resources and is certified as a
Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society
for Human Resource Management (SHRM). She is involved
in ASI’s executive search and organization development
consulting projects.
Ms. Durland most recently
worked with the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association (ASHA) where she championed a change in
ASHA’s organizational culture from a traditional
hierarchy to a dynamic, team based culture. She was
instrumental in re-casting ASHA’s compensation program
to support the desired changes in the organizational
culture and reward employees for the value that they
contribute to the organization. A significant emphasis
was placed on improving the feedback employees receive
about their performance and developmental planning. To
this end, she implemented a 360-degree review process
for all staff that was tied to their opportunity to earn
merit increases. Ms. Durland also developed the
training programs necessary to support this vast
organizational change.
Ms. Durland’s first
responsibilities at ASHA included managing the
recruitment program for all staff, including executive
level positions. She successfully cultivated a staff
that mirrored the diversity available in the
marketplace. To aid in recruitment and retention, she
also initiated telecommuting and flexplace programs to
provide flexibility to employees in determining when and
where they perform their work. Ms. Durland’s work
helped ASHA to earn the Great Place to Work Seal
from Montgomery County.
Prior to working at ASHA,
Ms. Durland had the exciting opportunity to help start
up Marriott’s Work and Family Life Department. Marriott
is widely recognized as a leader in the Work/Life arena
and Ms. Durland helped to set the direction early on in
their efforts. She developed and implemented a childcare
resource program, created and presented work-life
management training seminars, and assisted in the
development of an on-site child development center. She
also presented train-the-trainer workshops to assist
managers in understanding and accessing the programs
available to staff. Prior to contributing to
Marriott’s work/life agenda, Ms. Durland was manager of
the recruitment program for Marriott’s international
headquarters.
Elsie
Durland is recognized as a skilled meeting facilitator
and project manager. She has a BS degree from St.
Joseph’s College and is a graduate of St. Luke’s
Hospital School of Nursing.
