James Zaniello
James Zaniello, Vice President, works with numerous
trade associations, professional societies and other
nonprofit organizations to identify senior staff and
chief and executive officer talent.
His 15 years of professional experience in developing
associations/nonprofits, start-up companies, and with
small businesses, has prepared him to lead organizations
through the daunting task of defining the qualities and
experience they need in an executive, identifying
potential candidates through ASI's extensive network and
conducting thorough interviews and references on these
individuals. He also facilitates the negotiating process
for compensation and perquisites and assists in
transition planning for the newly-hired executive.
Mr. Zaniello served as an Association Executive for
Smith, Bucklin & Associates, the world's largest
association management company. In this role he served
as Executive Director of the OsteoArthritis Research
Society International and of a start-up financial
services trade association. He also served as the
Interim Executive Director for the American Federation
of Medical Research.
Mr. Zaniello served as managing director of a newsletter
publishing firm where he was directly responsible for
five job search newsletters, including CEO Job
Opportunities Update which is the definitive executive
search tool for the nonprofit arena. In that capacity,
he established strong relationships with many nonprofit
senior level executives while also working with
organizations to assist in defining the search
criteria.
Prior to managing that business, Mr. Zaniello held
positions in the membership and communications
departments of several national trade associations and
professional societies. He is well known and highly
regarded by many in the nonprofit world.
Having received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass
Communication with a Minor in Political Science from
Saint Bonaventure University in New York, Mr. Zaniello
has completed additional graduate level course work in
association management from George Washington
University. He is a frequent speaker on career
management issues in the association community and on
how candidates can achieve the position of CEO. He has
had articles published by the Association Management and
Executive Update.
James Zaniello is
actively involved in the American Society of Association
Executives, has served as Chair of ASAE's political
action committee, and continues his service on APAC's
Board. He currently serves on the National Alumni Board
for Saint Bonaventure University.
