TRICIA BORK CANAVAN, Associate,
Recruiting and Development
Quote:
“My greatest satisfaction and reward come from
developing a collaborative and service-oriented
relationship with an organization that has placed its
trust in us -- first by learning everything I can about
its culture, needs and goals, and then by working to
exceed its expectations.”
Mantra/Philosophy:
“If your standards are high and your commitment to
meeting them is unwavering, you won’t disappoint or be
disappointed.”
Tricia has more than 28 years of senior-level experience
in association management in a variety of diverse
enterprises. A self-described “jill of all trades,” she
has served organizations ranging from small, struggling
enterprises to complex and highly visible associations.
She specializes in developing strong relationships with
clients, constituents and stakeholders; assessing and
enhancing governance operations; and managing and
improving organizational processes.
Before joining Association Strategies, Inc., Tricia
served as the executive director of the American
Association of Medical Society Executives, the
professional organization of chief executive officers
and senior staff of county, state, national, national
specialty and international medical societies. Charged
with rebuilding the national reputation and resources of
the association, she was successful in raising its
profile within the federation of organized medicine by
implementing programs and services that significantly
increased membership, the number and quality of
educational programs, and the level of corporate
support.
Tricia began her career in association management in
Kansas City with the National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA), the U.S. governing body for
intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports. She served the
NCAA in a variety of positions for 22 years, the last 12
as vice-president for championships. In that capacity,
she oversaw the administration and management of 82
annual intercollegiate championships in 23 men’s and
women’s sports. During that time, Tricia also served as
the chief liaison to numerous governance committees
within the organization and as the head of special
projects, including leading special and ad hoc committee
activities and managing a high-profile executive
director search.
A native of St. Marys, KS, Tricia holds a degree in
journalism from the University of Kansas and a TESL
(Teaching English as a Second Language) certification
from Trinity College in Windsor, England.
